From Office to Bar in One Pair of Shoes
Share
6:20 PM on a Friday. I was the last one still packing up.
My phone buzzed — a friend had texted me an address. "Can you make 7:30?"
I looked down at the glitter sneakers on my feet. Didn't move.
At 8 PM I walked out of the bar, same shoes.
Morning Commute: Nobody Bats an Eye
On a packed subway, glitter sneakers + jeans + white tee + a blazer.
Coworkers look twice, but nobody asks "why are you wearing that to work."
The most you'll get: "Got plans tonight?"
After Work: The End of the Backup Shoe
I used to stuff a second pair of shoes in my bag every Friday.
The light ones pinched. The heavy ones were heavy. I always ended up wearing flats out anyway.
The trick with these glitter sneakers: they're slip-ons and they're flat — but they don't look flat.
Which is how I can go from desk to cab to bar door.
Weekends: White Tee + Denim Shorts + Glitter Sneakers
Weekends I'm even more lazy about outfits.
Same sneakers, denim shorts, any white tee — coffee, brunch, errands, grocery runs. All fine.
3 Months In, Here's What's True
- No blisters: the opening has just enough give for a full day of walking
- Doesn't look dirty: the dark base + glitter hides subway grime
- Doesn't worry me: I'll walk through puddles, I won't dodge rain
- Glitter stays on: a full summer in, nothing's falling off
Last Friday I went from desk to bar in the same shoes.
On the cab ride over, I checked the time, not my outfit.
That's the whole point.
